Six outstanding female scholars were recognized by the Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council during their annual scholarship reception held at the Burlington County Lyceum of History and Natural Sciences. The event saw the presentation of $1,000 scholarships to Natalie Sherill, Catherine Marino, Kavya Parik, Nazifa Hasna, Katrina Benton, and Allyson Kittel.
Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson expressed pride in the council's efforts, stating, "As women leaders, we have a responsibility to serve as mentors and role models for the next generation." Commissioner Allison Eckel commended the recipients, acknowledging that they are "already inspirational due to their achievements and service."
Natalie Sherill, the recipient of the Burlington County & Alice Paul Champion Scholarship, shared her plans to study nursing and psychology at Seton Hall University. Catherine Marino, awarded the Burlington County & Remington & Vernick STEM Innovation Scholarship, expressed her passion for mechanical engineering. Similarly, Kavya Parik, recipient of the Burlington County & Virtua Health Light Maker Scholarship, aims to pursue community health at either Northeastern or Tufts University.
Nazifa Hasna, granted the Burlington County Educating the Future Scholarship, detailed her aspirations to major in early childhood education and psychology at Rutgers University-Camden. Katrina Benton, honored with the Burlington County Leading the Way Scholarship, outlined her plans to major in criminal justice and minor in women-gender studies and communications at Townson University.
Allyson Kittel, distinguished with the Burlington County Commissioners’ Future Hero Scholarship, intends to enroll at Liberty University and participate in the Air Force ROTC program with the goal of becoming a KC-46 pilot in the future.
The scholarships and reception were made possible through the support of various organizations, including the Alice Paul Institute, Virtua Health, and Remington & Vernick Engineers. The Women’s Advisory Council continues to empower young achievers and contribute to the development of future leaders in Burlington County.
