The Burlington County Board of Elections is calling for civic-minded residents to serve as poll workers during the upcoming General Election on November 5, 2024.

By law, poll workers must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote in Burlington County. No prior experience is required, but mandatory in-person training is necessary.

Poll worker responsibilities include unlocking voting machines and equipment, setting up electronic pollbooks, assisting with voter sign-in and processing, aiding voters, closing polls, and handling supplies. Poll workers will receive $300 for their work on Election Day.

“Our democracy depends on free and fair elections. To do that, we need dedicated, community-minded residents who are willing to serve,” said Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Dan O’Connell. “Both Democrats and Republicans are needed to work at the polls. It’s an opportunity to serve your community and to help make sure our democracy works.”

Burlington County Election Board Chair Joseph Dugan emphasized the importance of poll workers this fall due to expected high turnout from the presidential race and the introduction of new voting machines.

“Poll workers are critical to making our democratic election work. It’s an opportunity for residents to help their friends and neighbors exercise their fundamental right,” Dugan said. “No matter your background or politics, you can help serve your community and our country in a very profound and inspiring way.”

Prospective poll workers should be able to read and write legibly and be available from approximately 5:15 AM to 8:30 PM on Election Day.
