The Burlington County Farmers Market is set to celebrate the fall season with a special Squash Day event on Saturday, Sept. 28. The market will be open from 8:30 AM to 1 PM at the Burlington County Agricultural Center located at 500 Centerton Road, Moorestown.

Visitors can expect a variety of squash for sale, including pumpkins, zucchini, and butternut squash. Additionally, there will be prepared foods featuring squash ingredients. Activities planned for the day include a cooking demonstration, basket giveaways, pumpkin decorating, and free samples of butternut squash soup, zucchini bread, and pumpkin ice cream while supplies last.

“Pumpkins and other squashes are a fall favorite and one of the best places to shop for them is at the Burlington County Farmers Market,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “Our market was voted the No. 1 farmers market in New Jersey this summer because of the fantastic foods, crafts and produce sold here, but also because of the special events and activities the market hosts. Every market day is special so be sure to visit this Saturday.”

New Jersey ranks among America's top producers of squash with over 33.6 million pounds grown on 2,900 acres last year. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, New Jersey farms produced approximately $15.7 million worth of squash in that period.

Eighteen different farms are scheduled to participate in this Saturday’s market. Among these are Black Sheep Farm, Cranberry Hall Farm, Durr’s Blue Box Produce, Fernbrook Farms, Pinelands Produce and Robson’s Farm—all offering various types of squash.

In addition to farm vendors, there will be 26 food vendors selling items made with squash ingredients such as Cheese Etc., Humble Spud, Is it Spicy Sauce Co., Peewee’s Ice Cream, Pied Out Bake Shop, Raven Cakes, Settantatre Pasta, The Soup Bar, Tis So Sweet Bakery and Wild Flour Bakery.

Crafters and artists will also showcase their creations alongside information booths from nonprofit organizations like Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter and Red Dragon Canoe Club. Live music will be provided by JB Rocks throughout the day.

Now in its 18th season, the Burlington County Farmers Market operates every Saturday from early May through Nov. 23 regardless of weather conditions. A special holiday market is planned for Dec. 7 this year.

If you haven’t visited yet be sure to go during Squash Day or another Saturday this season.”
