The Burlington County Earth Fair will make its return to Smithville Park on April 27, featuring a 1970s theme to celebrate the first Earth Day held in 1970. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free for attendees of all ages, who are encouraged to dress in 1970s attire.

Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel emphasized the importance of the event, noting that "Earth Day was created to bring attention to the environment and make protection a national priority. Decades later, it’s more important than ever that we work together to preserve our air, water, land and wildlife." She added that the Earth Fair is an opportunity to discover ways to incorporate sustainability in daily life and protect natural resources.

New games and activities will be available, including PSE&G’s “Great Energy Escape”, designed to promote energy conservation through a timed series of puzzles. Doug Tallamy, a University of Delaware professor, author, and leader with Homegrown National Park, will be among the featured presenters.

Activities will also include presentations from various organizations, including Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, Burlington County Master Gardeners, and more. The Artisan Marketplace will offer upcycled and recycled goods, while other attractions include a Plant Swap table and the Sustainable Living tents.

The Mercer County Boys and Girls Club will host a special bicycle collection, focusing on refurbishing bikes to donate to those in need, alongside a collection of art, craft, and office supplies.

Entertainment options like food trucks, a beer garden, live music, and children's activities promise to make the fair a family-friendly event. A full schedule of events can be found on the Burlington County website.
