As the holiday season concludes, Burlington County is offering a free Christmas tree recycling service at the Resource Recovery Complex located at 2200 Burlington-Columbus Road. The initiative encourages residents to bring their live trees for chipping and composting.

The "Treecycle" service operates Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM and on Saturdays from 7 AM to noon. It is important to note that only live trees are accepted; artificial, bagged, or flocked trees cannot be recycled. Residents must remove all stands, lights, tinsel, wires, ornaments, and garland before bringing their trees.

Holiday lights can also be recycled at the complex but should not be placed in regular recycling cans.

Burlington County Commissioner Tom Pullion emphasized the environmental benefits of this program: “With the holidays just ending, many residents will be packing up their decorations and taking down their trees,” said Pullion. “We want to remind everyone that our County’s treecycling service is available free of charge. It’s a sustainable way to ring in 2025 and it also helps save money for our municipalities by reducing the amount of waste entering our landfill.”

In addition to this service, several municipalities offer curbside collection or drop-off options for discarded trees. Residents are advised to contact their local town offices for specific details regarding collection schedules and any special requirements.

To aid in these efforts, information about curbside collections can be accessed via the county's Recycling Coach app. This free application provides comprehensive details about recycling programs and materials accepted in Burlington County.

Commissioner Pullion highlighted the importance of proper recycling practices: “Burlington County collects recycling in all 40 of our towns and we’re one of the only counties in New Jersey to provide this service free-of-charge... Downloading the Recycling Coach app is a great way to stay up-to-date with the recycling schedule and understand exactly what can and cannot be recycled.”

For further inquiries about Christmas tree recycling or other services provided by Burlington County's Department of Solid Waste and Recycling, residents can call 609-499-1001 or email recycle@co.burlington.nj.us.
