The Burlington County Troll Trek, a public arts exhibition organized by the Burlington County Commissioners and the Burlington County Parks System, is ongoing through December 31. This event features 19 trolls placed in various outdoor locations throughout the county. The exhibition draws inspiration from Big Rusty, a large troll created by renowned artist Thomas Dambo at Hainesport's future Creek Turn Park. Like Big Rusty, all trolls are crafted from recycled and natural materials.
After the New Year, some of these trolls may be relocated to new homes chosen by their creators and sponsors who contributed to funding stipends for artists involved in the project.
“Troll Trek was created to celebrate recycling, sustainability and the power of imagination. It has accomplished everything we hoped for and more, bringing visitors to parks, downtowns and other outdoor green spaces,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. She encouraged everyone to visit any remaining trolls before the exhibition concludes.
Residents and visitors can access an online map with GPS coordinates for all 19 troll locations on the Burlington County Troll Trek page: https://co.burlington.nj.us/2076/Troll-Trek-2024.
In addition to Troll Trek, there are numerous events, art exhibits, programs, and activities available for all ages in the Burlington County Parks System’s Winter Program Guide. This 36-page guide is accessible online at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/235/Parks and includes information on seasonal events as well as nature, history, health and fitness programs. It also lists upcoming activities at the Historic Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County and Rancocas Nature Center.
“Troll Trek is a perfect example of the creative and innovative exhibitions and programs presented by the Burlington County Parks system each month,” stated Commissioner Allison Eckel, liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks. “These activities entertain, enrich, and contribute to the high quality of life all residents enjoy in this county. The Winter Program Guide lists them all and is a great resource for all residents looking for new and exciting ways to enjoy the season.”
