Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel has been appointed as the President of the Southern New Jersey County Commissioners Association for 2025. Alongside her, Burlington County Commissioner Tyler J. Burrell was named the Association's Treasurer.
The Southern New Jersey County Commissioners Association includes elected officials from eight counties in South Jersey: Burlington, Ocean, Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Cumberland, Salem, and Cape May. These officials meet monthly to exchange information and discuss collaboration on shared concerns. The Association is a subgroup of the New Jersey Association of Counties.
Commissioner Eckel and Commissioner Burrell were officially sworn into their roles during the first meeting of 2025. Previously, Eckel served as Treasurer in 2023 and Vice-President in 2024.
“It’s an honor to be selected to lead this bipartisan group of dedicated public servants,” said Eckel. “Sharing our diverse perspectives and experiences can help us address shared goals. I look forward to leading discussions about how our counties can work closer together on matters like transportation, climate resiliency, economic development and more. Together we can develop new ideas and strategies to address these and other issues impacting our region.”
Burrell expressed enthusiasm about his involvement with the association in his first year as a County Commissioner. “It’s a great opportunity for me to meet and interact with other South Jersey leaders and learn about their county’s programs and how their counties are tackling issues that may be similar to ones facing Burlington County,” he said.
Eckel has been part of the Burlington County Board of Commissioners since April 2022. She serves as liaison to several departments including Resource Conservation and Parks, Public Safety, Burlington County schools, and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Before joining the Commissioners, she was on the Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education and actively volunteered with Scouting America as a scout leader.
In addition to her role with the Southern New Jersey County Commissioners Association, Eckel continues her service on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee. This committee offers policy advice on local environmental issues.
“Serving on the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee in 2024 was a great experience that allowed me to cooperate with leaders from across the nation and learn about environmental protection strategies and policies,” said Eckel. “I’m honored to return and look forward to continuing to provide input on behalf of Burlington County and New Jersey.”
