Burlington County is commemorating Black History Month with a series of events, workshops, and performances. These activities will take place throughout February and early March to highlight the county's Black historical significance and culture.
One notable event is the Underground Rail Museum of Burlington County’s annual Celebration of Local Iconic Heroes/Sheroes on February 21 at Rowan College at Burlington County. The college, along with the Burlington County Library System, has organized additional programs such as a fashion show, luncheon, coin collecting workshop, and a musical tribute to Ray Charles.
“Black History is both American history and Burlington County history,” stated Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. She emphasized that the county has many significant Black historic sites and figures worth celebrating for their contributions to the community and nation.
Throughout February, county commissioners aim to honor standout Black leaders from Burlington County. “We are proud of our county’s connection to so many great Black leaders, innovators, groundbreakers and achievers from our past and present,” said Hopson. She hopes these celebrations will educate and inspire future generations.
