Virtua Health's three hospitals with maternity divisions have been recognized as "high performing" by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025 list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. These hospitals, Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, Virtua Voorhees Hospital, and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, deliver nearly 9,000 babies each year, making them the leading health system for childbirths in South Jersey.
"Virtua is honored to be recognized for the fourth consecutive year," stated Dr. Nicole Lamborne, vice president of clinical operations for women’s and children’s services at Virtua. She emphasized the importance of healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries, noting that the recognition reflects the expertise of their medical staff and effective protocols.
The Best Hospitals for Maternity Care aims to assist healthcare consumers in identifying high-quality maternity care facilities for uncomplicated pregnancies. The evaluation criteria include rates of C-sections, newborn complications, breast-milk feeding practices, VBAC frequency, episiotomy rates, adherence to federal "birthing-friendly" practices, and tracking outcomes across different races and ethnicities.
Additionally, Virtua Mount Holly Hospital and Virtua Voorhees Hospital were redesignated as Baby-Friendly birth facilities by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc., recognizing their commitment to breastfeeding support through BFUSA’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding initiative.
Pam Gallus, assistant vice president of maternal child health at Virtua, remarked on the significance of breastfeeding: “Virtua recognizes the value of breastfeeding and its benefits to both mother and baby."
To improve maternity outcomes further, Virtua has implemented TeamBirth NJ—a communication model enhancing patient experience and safety—across its sites in partnership with the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute. They also plan activities supporting Black Maternal Health Week to address maternal mortality disparities among U.S. Black women.
