Burlington County will be able to purchase two new buses with $400,000 in state funding secured by State Senator Troy Singleton, Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, and Assemblyman Herb Conaway for the BurLink shuttle service.
The state funding was part of the approved 2025 Fiscal Year State Budget and will allow the county to purchase two new 16-passenger shuttle buses as replacements for ones that have high mileage and have required frequent repairs due to being in service for several years. Both buses are expected to be used on all three BurLink routes.
“Public transportation is an essential service across New Jersey, including in Burlington County, the state’s largest county,” said Senator Singleton, a prime sponsor of the budget resolution appropriating the funding. “BurLink provides a means for thousands of residents to move about the county, including seniors, disabled, low-income workers and others who are unable to drive or who don’t own an automobile. This funding will allow the county to continue modernizing its fleet and will help ensure this critical service remains available for those who need it.”
Assemblywoman Carol Murphy was also a prime sponsor of the budget resolution. Assemblyman Herb Conaway was a co-sponsor.
“Many hardworking Burlington County residents depend on the BurLink service to travel to jobs and other important locations in the county. Any service disruption will be harmful to those residents, so these replacement buses are critical,” Assemblywoman Murphy said.
Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson said the funding would allow the county to continue offering the shuttle service without burdening taxpayers.
“Burlington County strives to be welcoming and responsive to all residents’ needs, and BurLink provides an important transportation option for working families, seniors and our most vulnerable,” Hopson said. “In a region with few public transportation options, BurLink gives vulnerable residents access to job centers, government offices, health care facilities, shopping destinations. It also connects to other transportation systems like NJ Transit’s River Line light rail and buses to New York and Philadelphia. It’s a resource for our residents and local businesses, so we’re grateful for Senator Singleton and our other Burlington County legislators for their leadership and advocacy.”
BurLink provides weekday transportation service along three different routes in Burlington County. The scheduled stops include River Line stations, employment locations, Human Services, and other government facilities. The routes serve communities that lack other affordable public transportation.
The B1 route travels between Beverly and the Country Lakes section of Pemberton Township with stops in Willingboro, Westampton, Mount Holly, Pemberton, and Browns Mills. The B2 Route travels between Westampton and Beverly River Line station with multiple stops in Willingboro. The B5 Route provides service between the River Line’s Florence Rail station and the Haines Industrial Center off Route 130 with stops at the Amazon fulfillment center on Cedar Lane, Delaware Avenue, and other job sites.
The shuttle buses are wheelchair accessible and also have racks for bicycles. Fares are $2 for a trip but free for children under 6 with an accompanying adult or with some transfers from connecting services like NJ Transit buses or the River Line.
