Burlington County officials came together this week for a special community forum devoted to the challenges posed by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Held at the Burlington County Human Services Building, the forum featured presentations by Burlington County Health Department Director Dr. Herb Conaway; Division Head Amy Barra of the Burlington County Office on Aging and Burlington County Sheriff's Office Agent Jackie Moore.

An estimated 190,000 New Jersey residents are believed to be living with Alzheimer’s and there are more than 361,000 New Jersey caregivers impacted by the disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter

Burlington County is actively working to eliminate the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and the County also provides services to assist residents with many of the challenges posed by the illness, including meals on wheels and congregate nutrition sites, home health and respite care services and the Sheriff’s Department Persons at Risk Registry and Project Lifesaver programs. The latter two services help provide a safety net for residents who suffer from ailments such as Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

Thank you to the Alzheimer’s Association for helping to organize this important event and all the leaders, educators, providers and residents who participated in the discussion.
