Burlington County’s Troll Trek exhibition, featuring troll sculptures crafted from recycled and natural materials, will continue indefinitely. This decision was announced by the Burlington County Commissioners, who are responsible for organizing the exhibit alongside the Burlington County Parks System.
“Burlington County is a fantastic place to live so it’s no surprise that all the trolls have decided to remain here,” stated Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. She expressed excitement over the artists’ and sponsors’ agreement to keep the trolls on display for residents and visitors.
The exhibition comprises 19 troll statues located in various outdoor settings across Burlington County. It draws inspiration from Big Rusty, a large troll created by artist Thomas Dambo at Hainesport’s future Creek Turn Park site. Initially set to conclude on December 31st of last year, the exhibit has been extended indefinitely due to popular demand.
“Troll Trek’s success has well exceeded our expectations,” said Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel. “This is a great example of how art can impact our communities and it reinforces our Board’s commitment to supporting artists.”
Currently, all 19 trolls remain in their original spots. However, two trolls at Historic Smithville Park—Gracie the Gardener and Troll on a Stroll—are scheduled to relocate this spring to Pennington Park in Delanco and Amico Island Park in Delran.
“Pennington and Amico Island are two of our most scenic parks and will be great locations for these trolls,” added Eckel.
Additionally, a new troll named Iris has been introduced by artist John Cannon as a companion piece to his original statue Edward. Both are situated outside Boyd’s Pharmacy in Bordentown City.
