Born on March 7, 1950, in Fort Dix, New Jersey, Franco Harris became a key figure in NFL history. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1972, he earned the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Harris played 13 seasons, primarily with the Steelers, and was selected for nine Pro Bowls. He contributed to four Super Bowl victories and was named MVP of Super Bowl IX. Harris is best known for the “Immaculate Reception,” a pivotal play in 1972 that led to the Steelers’ first playoff win. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. Harris passed away on December 20, 2022, just days before the 50th anniversary of his iconic play.
