The Burlington County Commissioners have approved a total of $78,861 in grants for 12 local history organizations. This funding aims to support these groups in their efforts to preserve and promote the county's historical sites and artifacts.

Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson emphasized the importance of these sites, stating, "Burlington County is one of the oldest counties in New Jersey and its historic sites and artifacts are among our county’s most important assets." She added that the grants will help organizations preserve the county's history and educate future generations.

The grants are part of the New Jersey Historical Commission’s County History Partnership Program. They can be used for various purposes, including general operations, museum exhibit development, and specific history projects or promotions. All 12 applicants received funding based on recommendations from a peer panel.

One recipient, the Armed Forces Heritage Museum in Burlington City, plans to use its grant to update its mobile exhibit for America's 250th anniversary celebration in 2026. The county also intends to participate in this celebration by partnering with RevolutionNJ.

Other funded projects include creating a pictorial booklet about Evesham Township history, restoring an 1849 map of Burlington County by the Tabernacle Historical Society, re-enacting the Battle of Petticoat Bridge, and developing an etiquette curriculum based on George Washington’s Rules of Civility.

Commissioner Allison Eckel highlighted the significance of these grants: “Burlington County has some of the most significant historic sites and artifacts in New Jersey, and these grants provide critical funding for local organizations to continue to research, preserve and share our county’s history.”
