Senator Andy Kim, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 3rd district since 2019, raised concerns on social media about rising heating costs and the independence of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in a series of posts dated December 17, 2025.
In his first post at 19:01 UTC, Kim addressed economic pressures facing New Jersey residents: “A 9.2% increase in heating costs will devastate too many New Jersey households. Your family deserves relief, not higher bills to pay. The growing financial strain for American families under this administration is unsustainable.”
Later that day at 19:48 UTC, Kim commented on FCC governance following a discussion with Senator Lujan and Chairman Carr: “Today, @SenatorLujan and I pressed Chairman Carr on the need for an independent FCC. Carr said he doesn’t think the FCC is an independent agency and has now immediately removed any reference of the FCC being an ‘independent agency’ from it’s website. This is all a big scam.”
At 20:40 UTC, Kim referenced the constitutional responsibilities of federal officials: “When the FCC Chairman took office he swore an oath to the Constitution, not President Trump.”
Kim’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over energy affordability and regulatory independence in Washington. The issue of rising utility costs has been particularly acute in New Jersey during recent winters.
Born in Boston in 1982 and currently residing in Moorestown, Andy Kim holds degrees from Deep Springs College (2002) and the University of Chicago (BA, 2004). He succeeded Tom MacArthur as representative for New Jersey’s 3rd district after winning election in 2019.
