Senator Andy Kim, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 3rd district since 2019, raised questions on social media regarding former President Donald Trump’s approach to Venezuela and the safety of American servicemembers.

On January 5, 2026, Senator Kim posted: “WHAT’S THE GOAL? – The American people deserve to know why Trump put American servicemembers at risk and has the U.S. running Venezuela. Maduro will be in court today. His indictment is about drugs, but Trump keeps talking about one thing: oil. 2/11”.

In another tweet on the same day, Kim wrote: “While Trump effectively declared ‘mission accomplished’, regime change is more complicated than that. Maduro was a brutal/illegitimate leader, but his regime is still in power and there are many questions about what comes next. Congress is back today; here’s what we should be https://t.co/TufOhC73NJ”.

Kim continued his commentary by focusing on allegations surrounding illegal drug activity: “IS THE GOAL FIGHTING ILLEGAL DRUGS? – Maduro is in court today, and you’ll hear a lot about narco-terror accusations. But Trump’s actions beyond the indictment don’t match his rhetoric. Just last month, he pardoned the former president of Honduras Hernández, who was charged with”.

Andy Kim has served as a congressman for New Jersey’s 3rd District since replacing Tom MacArthur in 2019 (https://www.house.gov/representatives). Born in Boston in 1982 and currently residing in Moorestown, Kim graduated from Deep Springs College in 2002 and earned a BA from the University of Chicago in 2004.

The posts come amid renewed scrutiny over U.S.-Venezuela relations following recent developments involving Nicolás Maduro’s court appearance on drug-related charges and ongoing debates within Congress about foreign policy direction.
