Senator Andy Kim, representing New Jersey’s 3rd district since 2019, has been vocal on social media about several pressing issues. Through a series of tweets, Kim shared his perspectives on gun violence, global democracy, and emergency management.
On June 2, 2025, Senator Kim addressed the issue of gun violence by advocating for assault weapons bans. He emphasized the importance of discussing community safety during #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, stating: “Assault weapons bans save lives. Having the conversation around how we keep our communities safe from gun violence could not be more important or timely.”
The following day, June 3, 2025, Kim highlighted the significance of global democracy’s impact on domestic affairs. In a tweet, he remarked: “When democracy flourishes around the world, it has an real impact here at home. It means our country is safer and our businesses have a fair playing field to operate in new markets.” He also acknowledged organizations like NED (National Endowment for Democracy), NDI (National Democratic Institute), and IRI (International Republican Institute) for their leadership in promoting global democracy programs.
Later that day, Kim criticized comments made by FEMA’s acting head regarding hurricane season. On June 3, 2025, he tweeted: “What an irresponsible comment. Hurricane season is here and the acting head of FEMA is “joking” that he didn’t know the U.S. had a hurricane season.” Expressing concern over this statement, he noted that neither he nor the American public found humor in such remarks.
Senator Andy Kim was born in Boston in 1982 and resides in Moorestown. He holds degrees from Deep Springs College and the University of Chicago.
