Senator Andy Kim, who has represented New Jersey’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, posted a series of statements on social media on October 7, 2025, addressing allegations against former President Donald Trump and issues affecting federal workers during a government shutdown.
In a post from October 7, Kim wrote, “Read his own words. Donald Trump is a mob boss who directed one of his henchmen, AG Pam Bondi, to go after his political opponents. It’s corruption. Plain as day.” In another message posted the same day, Kim directed attention to federal employees impacted by the shutdown: “Federal workers take note: Speaker Johnson has the power to ensure you have backpay, he just isn’t.” He continued to address the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on federal workers’ compensation: “Trump isn’t just holding your taxpayer dollars hostage in this government shutdown, he’s holding federal workers’ paychecks hostage, too. Threatening to not compensate them after this shutdown ends is completely ridiculous. We must guarantee back pay for federal workers after”.
Kim’s statements come amid continued debate over government shutdowns and their consequences for public employees. As a member of Congress since 2019, Kim succeeded Tom MacArthur and currently resides in Moorestown, New Jersey. Born in Boston in 1982 and holding degrees from Deep Springs College and the University of Chicago, Kim has maintained an active presence in discussions regarding congressional actions and national governance.
These comments reflect broader concerns about political accountability and the financial security of federal workers during periods of governmental gridlock.
