Senator Andy Kim, Ranking Member of the subcommittee overseeing FEMA and U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 3rd district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on January 22 and 23, 2026, criticizing recent decisions affecting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
On January 22, Kim called for an immediate halt to staffing reductions at FEMA, stating, “As Ranking Member of the subcommittee that oversees FEMA, I’m demanding that Sec. Noem stop the staffing cuts at FEMA immediately. Mass cuts to the FEMA workforce are reckless; they put our communities’ lives and safety at risk. You deserve better.”
Later that evening, he expressed personal and national concern in another post: “As a father, this is absolutely heartbreaking. As an American, I am outraged and find this administration cruel and lacking accountability.” On January 23, Kim further criticized the decision regarding FEMA staff reductions: “This is a stupid decision that will make us less healthy, less safe, and less prepared to take care of our communities.”
Kim’s comments come amid ongoing debates about emergency preparedness and federal agency staffing levels. Born in Boston in 1982 and currently residing in Moorestown, Kim has held his congressional seat since replacing Tom MacArthur in 2019. He graduated from Deep Springs College in 2002 and earned a BA from the University of Chicago in 2004.
