Senator Andy Kim, representing New Jersey’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently addressed constituents and the public through a series of posts on social media. The tweets covered topics ranging from Labor Day celebrations to concerns about national reputation and federal spending decisions.
On September 1, 2025, Senator Kim marked the holiday by expressing solidarity with workers: “Happy Labor Day, New Jersey! As we face increased challenges as a nation, I’m proud to stand with workers in their fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and equality. Thank you for joining me in supporting the hardworking individuals who help our communities thrive.”
The following day, he commented on global perceptions of the United States: “Our economic prosperity, technological innovation, and national safety rely on a powerful American reputation. Right now, the rest of the world sees the United States in decline. It sees the Trump Administration as the cause of that instability.” This statement reflects his concern about how international views may impact domestic stability and progress.
Later that evening on September 2, Senator Kim criticized recent actions by the executive branch regarding foreign aid: “Congress approved $4.9 billion in spending for foreign aid. The Trump White House canceled all of it. Whether he likes it or not, the Congress that you elect decides on spending. These ‘pocket rescissions’ can start with foreign aid, but your education, your roads…”
Senator Kim was born in Boston in 1982 and currently resides in Moorestown. He is an alumnus of Deep Springs College (2002) and earned his BA from the University of Chicago in 2004.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over federal budget authority and executive power over appropriations—issues that have recurred throughout U.S. history as different administrations have exercised discretion over congressionally approved funds.
