New Jersey Senator Troy Singleton, Burlington County Commissioners, and the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office are organizing a school supplies drive to assist local families. The initiative aims to ensure that every child in Burlington County is equipped for the upcoming school year.
The collection will run from Monday, July 7th through Wednesday, August 13th. Donations of new backpacks, school supplies, and other back-to-school items are sought to support families facing financial challenges.
Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel emphasized the importance of this year’s drive due to rising costs. “Purchasing all the supplies students need can be a financial hardship for some families under normal economic circumstances, but this summer we’re seeing prices for clothing, electronics and other classroom essentials increase,” she stated. “The economic conditions have made this year’s school supplies drive that much more important.”
Senator Singleton highlighted the ongoing commitment of his legislative team to help students start the academic year with necessary supplies. “Helping students begin the year with new backpacks and supplies is something our legislative team has done regularly,” he said. He expressed hope that collaborating with the County Commissioners and Sheriff’s Office would expand their reach.
Donations can be made at Burlington County branch libraries, government building lobbies, and Senator Singleton’s office located at 400 North Church Street, Suite 260 in Moorestown. Only new items such as backpacks, calculators, binders, paper products, writing utensils, small hand sanitizers, lunch boxes, scissors, and index cards will be accepted.
Last summer’s effort saw over 500 backpacks distributed to children in Burlington County. Sheriff James Kostoplis expressed optimism about exceeding last year’s contributions: “We’re hoping to surpass last year’s donations and help even more students start the school year right.”
