The Burlington County Senior Expo will take place on May 6, offering a range of services, information tables, free health screenings, document shredding and more. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Village Fellowship Center in Burlington Township.

Organized by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Human Services’ Office on Aging, the expo aims to provide county seniors and residents with access to various resources in one location. According to organizers, it is one of the largest events of its kind in the region.

“The Expo provides a clearinghouse of information from dozens of agencies and organizations. Their representatives can answer questions on all kinds of topics, ranging from home security, tax relief programs, health care, nutrition, transportation, and recreational opportunities,” said Burlington County Sheriff James Kostoplis. “It’s always informative and we’re excited to host the event and meet with residents.”

Commissioner Randy Brolo said that attendees can interact directly with government staff: “Residents of all ages make Burlington County their home because of the activities, programs and businesses we have here, and the Senior Expo is a great place to learn more about the services that are available from our County and our many community and state partners,” Brolo said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to connect with constituents face-to-face.”

More than 50 exhibitors are expected this year including state agencies as well as organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and Brain Injury Alliance. Attendees may tour Masonic Homes facilities or participate in free health screenings such as blood pressure checks.

A complimentary lunch will be provided for up to 500 senior citizens attending. The Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Unit will also offer senior identification cards—listing emergency contacts—and veteran identification cards which can serve as proof for discounts or benefits at businesses; veterans seeking these should bring DD214 discharge papers along with photo ID.

The expo will also collect used cell phones through its 911 Cell Phone program so they can be distributed pre-programmed for emergency use by seniors at no cost.

“Keeping Burlington County residents safe is our top priority and the cell phone program is one of the important services attendees can learn about at the Senior Expo,” Kostoplis said. “We hope as many residents as possible will come out and learn more about these and other resources available to them and their families.”
