Burlington County is organizing a special event to help local seniors access $40 farmers market vouchers, which can be used to buy fresh produce. The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Burlington County Library in Westampton. During this time, eligible seniors will receive assistance with applications and can obtain their vouchers on the spot.

So far, more than 500 vouchers have been given out to qualifying seniors. The program targets residents who are 60 years or older, live in Burlington County, and meet specific income requirements: less than $28,953 annually for individuals or $39,182 for married couples. Applicants are required to bring proof of income.

Vouchers will be distributed using a QR code that can be scanned by participating vendors at local farms and farmers markets from an electronic device. Seniors without smartphones or portable devices will receive printed copies of the QR code. A list of participating locations accepting the vouchers will be handed out at the event and is also available online at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/DocumentCenter/View/21584/Burlington-County-2025-Senior-Farmers-Market-Participants.

Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson said, “The farmers market vouchers offer some additional assistance to vulnerable senior citizens who may be stressed by rising food prices. By holding this event, we hope to make it easier for those seniors who may be eligible but need help completing their applications. Our objective is to have applications processed and distributed that same day so seniors can leave with them and shop right away.”

Seniors unable to attend Thursday’s event can still apply by calling the Burlington County Office on Aging or emailing the department before the September 30 deadline.

Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel added, “Every Burlington County resident deserves to have access to fresh, nutritious foods and the vouchers are a resource for senior residents with limited incomes. This event will offer seniors help completing their applications and get them answers to questions they might have about this and other County programs and benefits. We know every little bit of assistance can make a difference, so we’re encouraging eligible seniors who haven’t gotten their vouchers yet to come to the library on Thursday to apply and receive them with a single trip.”

The Burlington County Sheriff’s Office will also participate in the event by sharing information about its services aimed at senior safety, such as senior ID cards, home security inspections, and emergency preparedness programs.

“Burlington County is a wonderful place to live for all ages and we want all residents to feel safe and secure here,” said Burlington County Sheriff James Kostoplis. “Our office offers several different services that are designed to give seniors the knowledge and resources they need to remain safe during emergencies and to protect themselves from accidents, scams and other crimes. We look forward to sharing information about these programs during Thursday’s Farmers Market Vouchers distribution and other upcoming community events.”
