Primary Election Day is set for Tuesday, June 10, offering registered Democrats and Republicans in Burlington County the chance to choose their party’s candidates for the upcoming General Election.

New Jersey operates a closed primary system, allowing only declared members of the Republican or Democratic parties to vote. Unaffiliated voters can participate by declaring a party affiliation either before or on Primary Election Day. However, registered Republicans and Democrats are not allowed to switch parties on this day.

Early voting has already begun across New Jersey, with thousands of ballots cast in Burlington County. Nine early voting locations are available for voters from any of the county’s 40 municipalities until Sunday, June 8. On Primary Election Day itself, voters must go to their designated polling spots as indicated on their sample ballots.

Polling places will open at 6 AM and close at 8 PM. Those in line by closing time will be allowed to vote.

Voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the county’s voting equipment through an online video provided by Burlington County Election and Voter Services. The machines have been used since 2021 and consist of touch-screen ballot marking devices with printers and separate tabulators.

Bringing a sample ballot can expedite check-in at polling places using electronic poll books that scan barcodes printed on the ballots. If issues arise during check-in or if voter registration appears incorrect, contacting the Superintendent of Elections at 609-265-5111 is advised.

Vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots should not be brought to polling places but can be returned via secure drop boxes, hand-delivered to the Board of Elections office in Moorestown, or mailed through USPS by June 10 at 8 PM. Voters who requested VBM ballots may vote provisionally at polling stations.

For those needing disability assistance, accessible voting machines are available at all locations. Poll workers can provide reasonable accommodations upon request; however, employers and union representatives cannot assist voters. For accessibility issues or accommodation difficulties, contact the Board of Elections at 609-265-5557.
