Burlington County is set to repave over 34 miles of roads across 14 towns as part of its latest State Funded Overlay Plan. The Burlington County Commissioners have approved a contract with Arawak Paving Co., based in Hammonton, for the milling and overlay work on these roads. The $11.1 million project will be largely funded by New Jersey transportation aid, requiring approval from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
“Burlington County is the largest county in New Jersey geographically and has more than 500 linear miles of County roads, 411 County bridges and 700 culverts. Maintaining this infrastructure is one of the most important services our County performs, and every dollar of aid we receive is critical for that purpose,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson.
The project includes resurfacing sections of roads in Moorestown, Westampton, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Springfield, Florence, Evesham, Eastampton, Mount Holly, Pemberton Township, Southampton, Shamong, Washington Township and Bass River. Work will proceed depending on weather conditions.
State Senator Troy Singleton and Assemblywoman Andrea Katz expressed their support for continued state funding for transportation infrastructure in Burlington County. “Road resurfacing work is critically important and helps guard against more significant and expensive fixes,” said Senator Singleton. “We’re pleased to hear a new round of repaving work will begin soon and help ensure Burlington County continues to have safe, quality roads and infrastructure.”
Assemblywoman Katz added: “Road maintenance is critically important for mobility, safety, economic growth and overall quality of life.” She emphasized her commitment to ensuring that Burlington County receives its fair share of transportation aid.
The project follows another ongoing program involving the repaving of 33.4 miles across different county roads.
