The Burlington County Commissioners and the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council are once again recognizing outstanding young women by offering scholarships to those aspiring to lead or pursue careers in STEM, healthcare, law, government, business, and community service. The annual Student Scholarship Awards are now open for applications, with five $1,000 scholarships available for graduating high school seniors.
This year introduces a new scholarship category in partnership with the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce for young women interested in business or entrepreneurship. Virtua Health, Remington & Vernick Engineers, and the Alice Paul Institute continue their sponsorships for these awards.
“March is Women’s History Month and one of the ways we celebrate the women trailblazers of the past is to recognize and support some of our county’s standout women scholars. We want to help them continue their studies and become leaders themselves,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson.
Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel added, “As women leaders, we have a responsibility to mentor the next generation and encourage them to pursue promising careers.”
The scholarships fall into several categories:
– The Burlington County and Alice Paul Champion Scholarship recognizes leadership and advocacy on women’s issues.
– The Future Entrepreneur Scholarship supports those interested in business.
– The STEM Innovation Scholarship aids students pursuing science-related fields.
– The Light Maker Scholarship focuses on future healthcare professionals.
– Leading the Way Scholarship encourages careers in law or community service.
Applications are due by 4 PM on Tuesday, April 1. Winners will be announced in April with an award presentation scheduled for Wednesday, April 30.
