The Burlington County Commissioners and the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council have opened applications for their annual Student Scholarship Awards, aimed at supporting young women pursuing leadership roles or careers in STEM, health care, or business. Five scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to graduating high school seniors.

This year’s scholarships are sponsored in partnership with the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Virtua Health, and Remington & Vernick Engineers.

“March is Women’s History Month and one of the ways we celebrate the women trailblazers of the past is to recognize and support some of our county’s young women scholars. We want to help them continue their studies and become future leaders,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson, who serves as a liaison to the Women’s Advisory Council. “Thanks to the support of Virtua Health, Remington & Vernick and the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce, we are able to provide this important support to young women who are already making a difference in their communities.”

Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, also a liaison to the Advisory Council, added: “As women leaders, we have a responsibility to mentor the new generation and encourage them to pursue promising careers. These scholarship awards provide useful financial support and much-deserved recognition for some our county’s best and brightest.”

The scholarships include two Future Leader Scholarships for students demonstrating leadership on women’s issues; an Entrepreneur Scholarship for those interested in business; a STEM Innovation Scholarship for those planning careers in science or engineering fields; and a Light Maker Scholarship for students pursuing health care careers.
