Burlington County is offering $40 farmers market vouchers to eligible senior citizens for purchasing fresh produce. The initiative, managed by the Burlington County Department of Human Services Office on Aging, is part of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Seniors who qualify will receive a QR code voucher that can be redeemed at 16 participating farms and markets in Burlington County.
Last year, over 900 seniors benefited from this program. Burlington County Commissioner Director Dr. Felicia Hopson emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “Many Burlington County senior citizens on fixed income are acutely impacted by rising food prices and expenses that make it difficult for them to obtain quality, nutritious foods.”
To qualify for the vouchers, seniors must be 60 or older, reside in Burlington County, and have an annual income below $28,953 for singles or $39,128 for married couples. Applications can be obtained through the Burlington County Office on Aging by calling 609-265-5069 or emailing bwestmoreland@co.burlington.nj.us.
Vouchers are distributed via QR codes accessible on smartphones or other devices and can also be printed for redemption. Participating locations include Cranberry Hall Farm and Fernbrook Farms at the Burlington County Farmers Market and others like Hlubik Farms and Lone Wolf Farmers Market.
Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel highlighted the program’s benefits: “Every Burlington County resident deserves to have access to fresh, nutritious foods and these vouchers are a great resource for senior residents with limited incomes.” New Jersey Assemblywoman Andrea Katz also praised the initiative as beneficial for both seniors and local farms.
