Celesta DiLeonardo marked her 107th birthday on Wednesday with a celebration organized by the Burlington County Commissioners, the Burlington County Department of Human Services, and the Borough of Palmyra. The event brought together several officials and community members to honor her long life.
Among those present were Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo and Palmyra Mayor Gina Ragomo Tait. “Celesta is believed to be our county’s oldest living resident, and we are excited to help celebrate her remarkable life with her family, friends, and neighbors,” said Commissioner Brolo. He presented DiLeonardo with a County proclamation, card, flowers, balloons, and her favorite lunch from the Meals on Wheels program.
The celebration was also attended by Burlington County Department of Human Services Director Shirla Simpson, Deputy Director Malikah Morris, Office on Aging Director Bryan Barnes, and Dietician Carla Fynan. Mayor Tait was accompanied by Council President Tim Howard and members of the Borough’s Police and Fire Departments.
DiLeonardo is one of over 500 residents who receive meals from Burlington County’s Meals on Wheels program. This service provides nutritious meals to homebound residents aged 60 and older. Last year alone, the program delivered more than 120,000 meals.
“Meals on Wheels is one of our most important and successful County services,” said Brolo. “The nutritious meals and daily interactions are difference-makers for hundreds of our county’s seniors. Celesta is the perfect example of the program’s success.”
Originally from South Philadelphia, DiLeonardo moved to Palmyra where she raised three children with her late husband. She worked for over two decades at the Home Lite Company in Philadelphia and has always been an avid dancer. She attributes her longevity to good Italian food, dancing, creativity, and love from family and friends.
