A U.S. Army Reserves Colonel is set to deliver the keynote address at Burlington County’s Memorial Day Ceremony, an event organized to honor those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the United States. The ceremony will take place on Friday, May 30, at Veterans Memorial Park in Burlington Township.

Col. John V. Wildermann, serving as Congressional Legislative Liaison for the 99th Readiness Division based at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, will be addressing attendees. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 AM and is open to residents wishing to pay their respects.

Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel and Congressman Herb Conaway are also expected to speak during the ceremony. Commissioner Eckel emphasized the importance of recognizing military service: “Burlington County recognizes the service and sacrifice of all who have stepped forward to defend our nation,” she stated. “We are honored to have Col. Wildermann attend our County’s ceremony and help memorialize our heroes.”

The 99th Readiness Division oversees over 500 Army Reserve installations along the East Coast, providing support for soldiers and their families. Col. Wildermann’s military career began in 1998, with a transition from active duty in 2002 to various roles within the Army Reserve starting in 2003.

His notable assignments include mobilization during the Global War on Terrorism and serving as Deputy Defense Coordinating Officer for FEMA Region 3 in Philadelphia. He has been with the 99th Readiness Division since June 2021.

Col. Wildermann’s military decorations include multiple Meritorious Service Medals and other commendations reflecting his dedicated service.

The annual Burlington County Memorial Day ceremony commemorates its historical roots dating back to General John A. Logan’s call for a national day of remembrance in 1868.

Commissioner Eckel highlighted the day’s significance: “The heroes we honor on Memorial Day laid down their lives in the defense of our nation,” she said, underscoring the responsibility of upholding national principles and freedoms.
